problem entering initial position on INS
Jul 19th, 2010, 12:42am

[left

I have a problem trying to enter my initial position into INS.

I can get the first coordinate in (in this case N47258) press enter. Then press W (for W122184) but nothing happens. The MSU is on standby for all three units. I can't enter the initial position on any of them.

Suggestions please??

Best wishes

Same happens to me...When I put STBY,i see coordinates entered before, but totally wrong! And when I set true ones, mainly the lattitude (E/W) remains wrong, and WARN light is always on...Even pressing TEST button twice.

It is likely that you too are not following the correct entry procedure!!!
First there are no leading zeros except for e.g.
1.W000°45.5 which you enter as W0455 or
2.N50°05.2 which you enter as N50052
The other most common problem is pressing <insert> twice after entering your latitude.  You must only press it once.

Resuming the correct procedure to insert the ramp position and align the INSs.
1-Set all three MSU selectors to STBY
2-push on your Keyboard shift+Z to have the ramp position in the upper left corner of your monitor.
3-copy and insert the LAT&LON positions rounded at nearest tenth of minute example:
N47 25.8  W122 18.4
4-Pay attention because the INSERT light doesn't go out when you insert the LAT.For this reason you have to push INSERT button once. The INSERT light will go out after the insertion of LON.
5-Set all three MSU selectors to ALIGN.
6-Chose a MSU panel and push the screw in the upper right corner to perform a Fast ALIGN procedure.
7-If your ramp position has been inserted properly when API 5 is reached  the NAV lights will illuminate, otherwise the aligment will stop at API 6 and you have to reinsert the ramp position correctly.

Inserting my ramp position like e.g  N51*20.7  W0*10.3

What to do when it becomes N53*26.2   W0*10.3
WHEN shift+z shows my coordinates as N51*20*7  W0*10.34

Every time before pushing  INSERT check that the coordinates shown on the displays are:

51* 20.7N INSERT(once)      000* 10.3W INSERT
follow the instructions in my post.
