Title: Unable to enter second half of present location Post by johncantwell on Nov 21st, 2007, 6:50am Need some help guys... I can't get the CDUs to accept the second part of my present location during setup. I've just installed the gauges with no problems, and set up the default 737-400 panel. The aircraft and panel load fine. I'm trying to work through the tutorial flight KBOS-KMIA. Sitting at the gate in KBOS, I've turned the three MSU to standby, checked for malfunction codes, checked the ID (11 17) in all three CDUs, checked the TEST button, with all being OK as per the tutorial. I've then turned the CDU selectors to POS to insert the present location. I've used SHIFT+Z to get my position, N 42 21.6 W 71 01.1 (gate B18). As instructed, I've pressed W 4 2 2 1 6 INSERT (which then extinguishes) but then the keypad will not allow any other entries. It's as though it has stopped recognizing inputs. I've tried using Keyboard Capture Mode (using my PC's keyboard) with the same result. I've tried shutting down the flight, and the whole FS9, but the problem is the same. I can enter the first half of the location, but that's it. I then get a WARN light on CDU #1 but none of the others. I've noticed that after entering the first part of the location (W 4 2 2 1 6) the first time I click on INSERT nothing happens, when I press it a second time the INSERT light goes out. The problem is the same with either engines running or shut down. Any suggestions? Is there any way to purge the system and start over (the entered digits remain in the system even after rebooting FS9). John Australia |

Title: Re: Unable to enter second half of present locatio Post by johncantwell on Nov 21st, 2007, 9:37am Hi Siberier! Thanks, problem solved! I was making the mistake of expecting the INSERT light to extinguish when I pressed it after the first part of the lat/long entry. When I just kept going with the longitude digits after one press of the INSERT button, it all worked, with the INSERT light going out after the second press, after the longitude entry. I spent hours trying to sort this out, even installing the gauges on a different PC! What a dummy! :-[ Many thanks :) John Australia |
Title: Re: Unable to enter second half of present locatio Post by Lan767 on Feb 19th, 2008, 7:36pm Hi John I am having the same problem with CDU's not accepting the second part of my present location. I've tried the Keyboard Capture Mode without success also. I have seen Siberiers reply to you about keyboard entering. I thought the Keyboard Capture Mode, was the only other method of entering the figures using the keyboard. Sorry, I am a bit new to all this, but I could not understand how you enter the figures using the keyboard, without using Keyboard Capture Mode. Help!!! My plane looks great on the ground. I would rather be in the air Lan767 |
Title: Re: Unable to enter second half of present locatio Post by Marco Ravanello on Feb 20th, 2008, 8:58am Entering data with the mouse or using keyboard does not make any difference, the key sequence/procedure is exactly the same: CDU DataSelector on POS Type in LAT Press INSERT (only ONCE!!, INSERT remains illuminated) Type in LON Press INSERT (INSERT light goes out) CDU DataSelector DSRTK/STS Monitor Right Data display for Errors and clear them as required. Regards Marco |
