Title: What do real INS Nav Selectors look like? Post by Philips on Mar 26th, 2008, 11:13pm Hi, I'm trying to create better versions of the 'nav selector' switch, the one where you choose which INS will control the autopilot. Can anyone tell me what they look like in real aircraft, and where they're located? I've been looking through airliners.net for hours and the only picture of an INS selector is on this E3A (http://www.airliners.net/photo/Luxembourg---NATO/Boeing-E-3A-Sentry/1268427/L/), and it's for choosing INS, TACAN, or VOR/LOC, not selecting which INS unit you want to use. (That aircraft has only one INS as far as I can see.) |
Title: Re: What do real INS Nav Selectors look like? Post by Marco Ravanello on Mar 27th, 2008, 9:41am It's written in the manual. There is no "INS NAV" Selector in real life, INS units are hard-wired to autopilot channels. Autopilot 1 is connected to INS 1, A/P 2 to INS 2 and so on. This obviously applies only to aircrafts having multiple autopilot channels and multiple INS units installed. It would be possible to simulate this by creating a custom "autopilot panel" gauge and using the INS SDK. Regards Marco |

Title: Re: What do real INS Nav Selectors look like? Post by Philips on Mar 27th, 2008, 10:16pm Thanks, I'll probably need that - I just need to get the hang of making basic gauges from the SDK and Dai Griffith's tutorial, then I'll have another bash at the CIVA gauges... |
Title: Re: What do real INS Nav Selectors look like? Post by Philips on Apr 14th, 2008, 2:40am The gauge is basically complete now, I think - but it's made to fit a particular payware aircraft, and it uses resources taken from that payware aircraft (panel bitmaps etc), so I won't be able to distribute it until I get permission from the aircraft's developers. But watch this space... |
