I have two INS CDUs installed into a VC10.

Just a brief question with regard to flight planning, as you can only have 9 coordinates at a time in the INS, if I'm doing a lengthy flight, say 5 hours or so, am I taking away any realism by removing waypoints/intersections from the flight plan so that I have only 9 or maybe only 18 to enter rather than 40?

I use Flight Sim Commander for my flight planning and I've noticed that there are alot of intersections on a straight line that can be easily removed as they don't seem to serve any purpose - they're on the same heading.

I hope this makes sense.

You have only 9 waypoints and
You can load waypoints manually or by ADEU automatically.

Hi,
The reply at your question is:
The INS is a very sharp replica of the DELCO CAROUSEL IV INS CIVA 28-A PROGRAM and it has been the first INS in use on board of all civil aviation classic planes .
Civa INS,as in the past, has only the possibility to load maximum up to 9 waypoints at time.
You can load up to 9 waypoints both manually or using the pre- compiled ADEU cards(see the operation manual) in order to make more easy&quick,during flight, the loading operations,as in the past.
So compile your flight plan with all waypoints you like and compile also the related ADEU cards.
You'll find the waypoint coordinates loading very easy&quick.

It seems that perhaps the ADEU hasn't installed into my panel. Where should I be seeing this and how can I get this to show?

I've checked the 'operationsmanual.pdf' and ADEU isn't mentioned.

I tried some of the other PDFs with regards to getting the ADEU panel installed, so I'll give that a go, although I'm not entirely sure.

Perhaps it's because the VC10 never actually had ADEU. I'm not sure why it wasn't widely used, as surely must have been time saving and above all reduced the aircraft going 'off course' due to errornous entries.

So long as I can make my own ADEU cards, then this will be useful. If not, then there isn't any use for me.

hi,
ADEU(Automatic Data Entry Unit) came out on board the Concorde planes and after this first exit really few airlines used it.
In the real world the ADEU cards were made by the flight dispatchers and used on board by the pilots.
Always when the waypoint card has been loaded,as the real pilots, you have to perform the distance check.
Our ADEU is included in the INS.gau if you have downloaded the last version 1.51.
Often the ADEU installation is made both on the radio panel or on the INS panel.
Alternative installation, If you don't have sufficient space in the radio or INS panels,is to create an ADEU own window.
First installation:
Add two new gauges in the radio or INS panel windows using the following syntax:
gaugeXX=../CIVA/INS!ADEU1,XX,XX,XX
gaugeXX=../CIVA/INS!ADEU2,XX,XX,XX
Alternative installation:
Add to the windows list:
windowxx=ADEU

After the last window in your panel.cfg you have to create the ADEU window:
[windowxx]

if you are not able to make your own ADEU cards manually you can download FP CIVA CONVERTER.
Being Avsim library down I don't know where now it's possible to get it.

I contacted that developer you suggested, waiting to hear back.

Someone in the meantime pointed me to a link to download the FS9 verion, which seemed to work. I converted one flight plan, flew it, but can't convert any more plans.

I did some digging and I see that the developer is working on an FSX version. I was unaware that there was that much difference between FS9 and FSX flight plans.
