Title: Auto waypoint progression Post by Hawkeyeted on Dec 23rd, 2009, 4:55pm CIVA automatically switches to the next waypoint at approx 2nm prior. However, when flying to waypoint 9, CIVA wants to switch at 10nm vice 2nm. I've had cases where the distance between WP 8 and WP9 be 7nm and CIVA would switch to WP9 and immediately go back to WP1 with navigating the remaining 5 or 6 miles. Is this normal? (I already have the second CIVA unit programmed up for the remaining flight plan, so it's not a huge problem, just wondering if it's normal behavior) Regards, Ted Barkley |
Title: Re: Auto waypoint progression Post by Gianfranco Corrias on Dec 23rd, 2009, 6:31pm hi, this is the first time I listen those waypoint switching values. Marco and me when we developped the Civa Ins we programmed to have the waypoint switching on the vertical waypoint position. Obviously it comes from the plane ground speed and the turn width to be done where the INS starts the turn point if a turn is expected between two legs.Considering those two variables the starting turn point is always different and is calculated by the INS in order to remain on track after the turn. So the difference you noticed between waypoint switching is only due to those two variables parameters. Regards Gianfranco |
Title: Re: Auto waypoint progression Post by Hawkeyeted on Dec 24th, 2009, 10:00pm Perhaps the answer is for me to manually program WP1 of the current CIVA unit to be the same as WP1 of the next unit I plan to switch to (essentially duplicating WP1 in two CIVA units). That way as the CIVA is navigating via WP9, it doesn't prematurely switch because it thinks WP1 is 180 degrees from the current heading? Thanks for your time. |
Title: Re: Auto waypoint progression Post by Marco Ravanello on Jan 22nd, 2010, 4:53pm CIVA does not switch from one leg to the next at a "fixed rate", how much the turn is anticipated is variable, influenced by ground speed and, above all, turn angle. So if you have a 180 turn angle (what kind of routing is that?!?!?!) then you're getting maximum leg switching anticipation.... Marco |
