Title: Insert Light Won't extinguish after Lon
Post by trey on Dec 30th, 2009, 12:32am

Hello.  I'm new to INS nav and my sequence for loading my position is:

Selector knob to pos.....Lat....insert key once....lon....insert key once.

The problem is after in insert to Lon coordinates and hit insert the light will not extinguish so I can't begin the alignment process.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks

Ok an update on my problem.  The INS works perfect if a flight is initiated from the default airport KSEA on FS4004.  However if from the create a flight menu I choose another airport to begin from other than KSEA, the INS doesn't work properly as far as being able to insert coordinates.

hi,
consider to be sure to reinstall the Civa INS.
To reinstall Civa INS you have just to delete the Civa folder in your FS2004 and than proceed to a new fresh installation.
The ramp position insertion is different from the waypoint insertion.
In fact the LAT and LON insertions are part of a unique manoeuvre, whereas in the waypoint insertion are two different and independent manoeuvres.
That's the why inserting the ramp position after the  LAT insertion the INSERT light remains on waiting the manoeuvre completion with the LON insertion.
Only after the LON insertion the INSERT light goes off.
Frequent error is to push twice the INSERT Sw/Lt after the LAT Insertion.
To insert the ramp position:
1-set the MSU selector to STDBY to power the INS.
2-set the CDU selector to POS
3-push the LAT North or south and insert the airport LAT position pushing ONCE the INSERT Sw/Lt.
4-The INSERT Sw/Lt remains ON being the insertion not yet completed.
5-push the LON East or West and insert the airport LON position.
6-Now when the INSERT Sw/Lt is pushed the INSERT Lt goes off because the airport ramp position insertion has been completed.
7-Set the MSU selector to ALIGN and the CDU selector to DSRTK/STS and from now on the API value start decreasing indicating that the Alignment is in progress.

Well I took your advice and re-installed Civa.  Unfortunately I'm still having the same problem.  I double checked and I am setting up my INS exactly as you say make sure I only click the Insert key once after LAT has been entered.

Still though, the system works absolutely perfect if I start a flight from KSEA.  However any other airport I begin from the INS will not let me insert anything.  I've even tried beginning at KSEA and then moving to another airport from there but still to no avail.

Could this possibly be an installation issue?  I'm downloaded the auto-installer from www.avsim.com for the dreamfleet 727.

Thanks for your response. I would love to be able to solve this problem because i have really enjoyed learning about this piece of navigation.

hi,
civa ins downloaded from this site(www.simufly.com/ins) has already its proper autoinstaller that works perfectly. So any autoinstaller from dreamfleet 727 isn't needed and maybe it's the issue cause.
KSEA for the civa ins is the same to all other airports and your considerations starting from KSEA are a nonsense.
Install Civa INS by its autoinstaller and proceed as I've said in my previous post.
If changing the departure airport you have the Action&Malfunction code 06-41  with the red Warn light on clean it by pushing the TEST button as required.
Good luck Gianfranco
