Title: 'Immediate' (Fast) Alignment not working Post by Martin S. on Feb 8th, 2016, 1:55pm H. I haven't used the INS for some years, so am very rusty. It is installed in the TinMouse 732 and after a few days experimenting, although I can get the INS to work on the ground, I have a couple of problems. I'd appreciate some help. 1. The fast alignment 'screw' doesn't seem to work. The countdown from 9 to 5 and beyond takes forever! I understand with the 'immediate' alignment, it should take 2 minutes whereas my INS usually isn't aligned even within 15, often getting 'stuck' at 7 or 6. This is what I do - am I doing something wrong (maybe in the 'order of play'? 1. Aircraft is stationery, parking brake on, APU running & generators on. 2. Turn the MSU to Standby 3. I cancel any errors showing on the INS and enter the current starting co-ordinates 4. Turn the MSU to 'Align 5. Press the fast align screw 6. Enter the flight plan via the ADEU... I tried reversing steps 4 & 5. No joy. The green lights still takes 10-15' to show 'ready', if it comes on at all. (Re-entering the starting co-ordinates sometimes fixes things if it seems permanently 'stuck)', May be 'real' but I really don't want to sit around that long I am afraid. So how do I use the screw to reduce alignment to 2 minutes, as people say happens in their sim? The second issue: even when I have the flight plan loaded via ADEU, the aircraft refuses to follow my loaded flight plan. I set the selector to GPS mode (rather than NAV and then the VOR/LOC in the SP77. Should that not set the a/c to follow the waypoints I loaded via the awc file/card reader? No doubt something I am doing wrong, as I don't have any problems like this when I fly with the SP177. Many thanks for any help. Martin |
Title: Re: 'Immediate' (Fast) Alignment not working Post by Marco Ravanello on Feb 9th, 2016, 11:06am > The fast alignment 'screw' doesn't seem to work Are you sure you're clicking on the MSU (upper) RIGHT screw while you have not yet selected NAV on the MSU Mode Selector Knob? > the aircraft refuses to follow my loaded flight plan To connect the INS to the FS autopilot you have to: 1) Have HDG lock mode on (FS autopilot) 2) Use the CIVA NAV Mode Selector to connect one of the installed INS unit(s) to the autopilot. For more details please see Civa/Docs/GaugesUserManual.pdf |
Title: Re: 'Immediate' (Fast) Alignment not working Post by Martin S. on Feb 9th, 2016, 8:10pm Hello.. Are you sure you're clicking on the MSU (upper) RIGHT screw while you have not yet selected NAV on the MSU Mode Selector Knob?" Yes, I set MSU to Standby, enter the current position, load the flight plan via ADEU, move the MSU to 'Align', press the top right-hand screw and wait. The PI does move down, (usually) but it takes too long - it usually sits on 7 and then 6 for at least five minutes each: usually takes over 15 minutes to be ready for NAV mode. I am afraid I don't really have the patience to wait for for that length of time every flight :o I have tried pushing the screw before I switch to Align too, or before I enter the flight plan into the ADEU, but I have never once got an alignment that took much less than 10-12 minutes. As I write, the INS has been stuck on 7-5 for five minutes - oh, it just moved to 6-5... Thanks. |
Title: Re: 'Immediate' (Fast) Alignment not working Post by Martin S. on Feb 9th, 2016, 8:19pm .. been stuck on 6-5 for over ten minutes now. I usually end up just closing FS9 down in frustration after a certain length of time.. :( |
Title: Re: 'Immediate' (Fast) Alignment not working Post by Marco Ravanello on Feb 10th, 2016, 12:14pm Martin, I believe you but what you're experiencing is VERY strange. Are you sure you're running the latest CIVA version? To check it look at the CDU Left Data Display pressing TEST while HOLD is on. |
Title: Re: 'Immediate' (Fast) Alignment not working Post by Martin S. on Feb 10th, 2016, 5:22pm Hi. Yes, it says 15.1.000 - that is the latest version. no? Trying yet again.. PI is counting down but again sticks for ever at 6. A pity as it would be good to fly using the INS Thanks. |
Title: Re: 'Immediate' (Fast) Alignment not working Post by Marco Ravanello on Feb 10th, 2016, 6:30pm > sticks for ever at 6 Forever or simply for "a long time"? If it is really stuck at 6 forever then there is something wrong going on. Either Present Position has not been inserted or there are Action/Malfunction codes present, which must be cleared before MI could go down to 5, as 5 means "Ready To Nav". So have you checked Action/Malfunction codes? (DSRTK/STS) |
Title: Re: 'Immediate' (Fast) Alignment not working Post by Martin S. on Feb 11th, 2016, 2:36pm I didn't check the codes as far as I recall, as there was no red Warn light showing. I tried again today and can give a bit more detail. This time I made some notes. OK, b737-200 is at a gate at LHBP, APU running and generators on. Parking brake set - the plane does not move during the following. 1. MSU to Standby 2. Set a/c position in INS CDU 3. Press 'Test' to clear red 'Warn' light 4. Load flight plan .awc file via ADEU 5. MSU to Align & press Fast Align screw 6. CDU reads 95: changes to 85 after almost 4 minutes; to 75 after 45 seconds; to 65 after another 4 minutes. Then the Warn light came up with code 4-45, so I had to start again... Same procedure and wait times as above, more or less. This time I got to 55, about four minutes after 65 Even forgetting the first failure (why?), it takes well over twelve minutes to get a green 'Ready' light. With the failure I am messing with the INS for almost 25 minutes.. Great bit of software, but you may understand why I don't use it any more. If I am doing something wrong, please, please tell me! Thanks. |
Title: Re: 'Immediate' (Fast) Alignment not working Post by Marco Ravanello on Feb 11th, 2016, 3:06pm 04-45 means Loaded Present Position Latitude is not correct or not within operating limits (80 00.0 N or S) [See ActionAndMalfunctionCodes.pdf] This evening at home I'll try the same sequence you described and see what happens, then I'll report back. |
Title: Re: 'Immediate' (Fast) Alignment not working Post by Martin S. on Feb 11th, 2016, 3:35pm Hi. Yes, thanks, I read that in the Abnormal Procedures pdf, but I didn't see what sense it made to my situation (which is why I emphasised the a/c was parked). Budapest is 'within operating limits' ::) And the same co-ordinates worked (eventually) on the second attempt, so they were OK first time round (I checked everything carefully both times so as not to have INS errors caused by my own). Be interested to hear how you get on! Martin |
Title: Re: 'Immediate' (Fast) Alignment not working Post by Marco Ravanello on Feb 11th, 2016, 3:56pm You probably inserted a wrong latitude value...not a big problem |
Title: Re: 'Immediate' (Fast) Alignment not working Post by Marco Ravanello on Feb 11th, 2016, 6:36pm I just tried following your sequence, and everything works as expected. So there must be something else wrong in your setup :-? Could you please post the panel.cfg file used by the plane you're using? |
Title: Re: 'Immediate' (Fast) Alignment not working Post by Martin S. on Feb 14th, 2016, 9:42pm Hi. This is the panel.cfg. It's slightly tweaked, with an added window, but I can't see anything that would impinge on the INS functions: everything else works but the fast alignment... Title: Re: 'Immediate' (Fast) Alignment not working Post by Marco Ravanello on Feb 18th, 2016, 12:57pm Humm...config gauge is defined twice, I don't know what this may cause (nothing good for sure) Please try removing one of the two definitions. [Window00] gauge01=../civa/INS!Config, 0, 0, 0, 0, B732ADV ... gauge65=../civa/INS!Config, 0, 0, 0, 0, B732ADV |
Title: Re: 'Immediate' (Fast) Alignment not working Post by Martin S. on Feb 18th, 2016, 2:32pm That's true. Well spotted! I removed one of the instances, but sadly this hasn't changed the long startup time - pressing the 'screw' doesn't seem to make any changes at all and it still takes almost quarter of an hour to get to a green INS 'Ready' light. :-( But thanks for the suggestion... (Also tried downloading a new setup file, deleting my old civa folder and reinstalling. Copied gauges to 732 panel folder, but fast alignment still not happening. |
Title: Re: 'Immediate' (Fast) Alignment not working Post by Marco Ravanello on Feb 18th, 2016, 2:37pm There is actually another "problem" but I first wanted to see if the doubled Config gauge was causing the problem. In the panel the following CIVA gauges are installed: Config (twice but one instance has been removed) Cdu11 Msu1 Cdu1 Adeu1 Msu3 I'd try removing Msu3 which is there doing absolutely nothing and I wouldn't like it actually hurts. |
Title: Re: 'Immediate' (Fast) Alignment not working Post by Martin S. on Feb 18th, 2016, 3:38pm Removing the MSU3 entry has made a difference. The CDU goes from 95 to 65 in ten seconds or less now, but from 65 to 55 and green light has just taken 20 minutes (I sat and timed it). No error codes were showing I had 0, then four blank digits and then 65.. Progress, of sorts! :) Any ideas about this last hurdle? EDIT: Just tried a third time and I got 55 only 20 seconds after 65! The only difference was that this time I pressed the fast align screw before rather than after I moved the MSU to 'Align'. I'll try a few more times at different locations and just confirm all OK. Many thanks for your persistence with my little problem, Marco. Looks like you might have solved it now! (Fingers crossed)... |

Title: Re: 'Immediate' (Fast) Alignment not working Post by Martin S. on Feb 19th, 2016, 5:03pm Yes, have installed the INS into other a/c (DC8 for instance) and it is all working fine. Thanks again... |
Title: Re: 'Immediate' (Fast) Alignment not working Post by Martin S. on Feb 3rd, 2017, 5:55pm Well, a year or so on and not having used the CIVA for several months I thought I'd give it an 'airing'. Unfortunately it is refusing to behave itself again.. The problem I have is that, as a year ago, the PI value reaches 65 then stays there (I have given up at 15 minutes). To go from 95 to 65 usually takes just 10 seconds or so, but so far I have not managed to get to 55 - so no green light, and no operating INS. Any ideas/tips? The Fast Align is clearly working up to a point, but what is stopping it moving beyond 65? There are no Action/Malfunction codes... It doesn't seem to make any difference whether I press the fast align screw before or after I set the MSU to 'Align' either. Thanks. |
