alignment again
Apr 6th, 2008, 4:39pm

I us the vickers super 10 when I had fs9 installed in windows xp I had no problem with the alignment so I know how to insert the ramp position. Now that I have window vista I can never get it to align most of the time it stops at api75 sometimes 65 but now I have noticed that the heading of the INS is different than the one shown when you press shift z it is off about 4 degrees would that have a affect on the align.

Doug,

That's because INS shows headings relative to true north.

> I can never get it to align

Does this happen with any aircraft/panel?

I only use the vickers I like the old a/c not much into glass cockpits. It just will not align whatever I do. It use to in xp but for some reason not in vista.

I have looked at the ramp position many times thinking that maybe I inserted a number wrong but every  time I look at it always the same as what it is in fs9 when you push shift z the number don't  lie. I have not trouble with the IL62 INS  so what do we think is the problem ?

I woke up this morning and went to my computer and started FS9 with the Vickers VC10 went to Denver International KDEN and tried to align the INS works like a charm for some reason It counted down form 95 to 05 and I flew the route with the INS coupled to the AP  and ended up where I was suppose to seems strange since yesterday it wouldn't do anything right . Well I know it works but it is beyond me.

I found that active sky may give some wind, what fs can see as ground speed.. >0.2 knots.

and also found this on the forum:

the ramp position LAT and LONG are part of a UNIQUE insertion entry.
Unlike waypoint insertion, where it's possible to change only LAT or LONG and after LAT or LONG insertion you can notice the INSERT light going OFF,If something goes wrong in any part of ramp LAT and /or LONG insertion the complete insertion must be carryied out again starting from the beginning.
That's the why the INSERT Light doesn't go off after the LAT insertion but you have to insert both LAT and LONG to obtain the INSERT light extinguished.
About the Alignment stop at API 6 this isn't an issue but the normal INS behaviour.
It's due to a Ramp position not inserted or not accepted by the INS because wrongly made or for a pending ACTION&MALFUNCTION code.
As written on the Operation manual you can first switch the MSU selector to ALIGN or NAV and before or at API6 insert the ramp position, because till API 6 the INS doesn't need to know the ramp position.
Pushing twice the INSERT button after LAT insertion is considered a wrongly made insertion and moreover cannot be recognized because,as said above, the INSERT light remains on until the LONG will be inserted.
When you have this alignment stop at API6 make this little ck list:
1-With Data selector on DSRTK/STS ck ACTION&MALFUNCTION codes and eventually clear it by TEST button pushing.

2-Reinsert the complete ramp position paying attention to push once the INSERT button after the LAT insertion.

Note number 2, got me past API6 (65)
