Warn Light On and Codes 102 24 and 131 24
May 23rd, 2008, 8:21pm

Hello,

I have a problem with CIVA INS v 1.51 on the SSTSIM Concorde...

Scenario: Climbing happily through FL420 at 1.7M, all INS's working normally. Route Perth-Singapore. Suddenly, all 3 INS's red warn light comes on, and A/P disconnect. Switch to DSRTK/STS and find action/malf codes 102 24 and 131 24 in the right-hand window. Pressing the TEST or CLEAR button has no effect except to repeat the codes. All 3 same problem. The codes do not correspond to anything in the CIVA Action/Malfunction Codes document. This happens on every flight +/- a few thousand feet. I have removed and re-installed the INS program, and removed (and re-installed) file Bae_Conc.Isd, but the problem comes back every time.

Brgds,
Clive

hi,
maybe the codes were 102 24 and after having pushed the TEST button
appeared 113 24 not clearable.
This is a randomly generated failure but it's anomalous that the failure happens on all three INSs.
Code 131 24 doesn't exist in the gauge and for this reason cannot come out.
I remember you that the autopilot when is coupled with the INS must be used in HDG mode.

I believe reported codes are actually a 02-13 and there should be also 02-14 and 02-15 "queued up"...but they have not been reported.

Those codes are NOT the result of a simulated hardware failure, they're generated, with some delay after takeoff, if an INS is brought in flight without being correctly aligned and setup.

So I would check twice the way you setup the INS unit(s).

Marco

Hi Marco,

The codes I reported are 102 24 and 131 24, in the R/H INS window. The set-up before taxi, is done with engines off (to ensure no creep), exacly according to present position. The alignment is then selected and top right-hand MSU mounting screw "clicked" to speed up alignment (I have also tried normal alignment.) Waypoints are then entered. I don't move the aircraft until the green "nav" light is on, and "nav" selected. I have watched the INS video tutorial (twice) and I am firing up the systems exactly as shown. I used to be a DC-10 Flight Engineer with Litton INS systems installed, so I am familiar with their operation. Something wrong here.

Clive,

there are no such codes, please see "displayedstatus.pdf" in Civa/docs, only the second and third digit (from the left) have to be considered....

Please try that flight once again and report the exact Action+Malfunction codes you're getting.

Thanks
Marco

After 30 minutes of flight and climbing through FL420 (+/- 2,000 ft), all 3 INS Warn lights on, and the A/P disengages.
Switch to DSRTK/STS and All 3 INS display the following:
L/H window - 284 (mag heading)
R/H window - 102 24, and when "test" button pressed, 131 24 comes up. Pressing "test" again brings the action/malf code back to 102 24. The 24 in the R/H portion of the R/H window on the CDU slowly counts up (if left alone) unitl it gets to 94. The codes will not clear. It may not be listed as an action/malfunction code, but it is what it is.

Thie INS set-up is by the book. Any flight plan from any destination to any destination has the same result. The latest was from LHR to JFK, and the "present position" wa taken directly from the map position in FS2004. The destination (JFK - waypoint 1) was also taken from the map location in FS2004.
As I have mentioned, all INS systems work great and are in agreement right up to the point that they all fail. The codes are exactly as I stated them. I would send a screenshot but I can't get the size below 385 KB. Any ideas how to reduce the screenshot image size?
Thanks,
Clive

to reduce the screenshot size take/or change the screenshot in JPG and use the adobe IMAGE READY to reduce it at minimum size. Then zip and attach it.

I had a look at the source code and docs and in fact the 02-31 codes are used but not documented.

02-31 is triggered when the MAXIMUM SPEED is exceeded. In this case your Ground Speed is higher than 899 KTS.....with Concorde or any other aircraft capable of that speed you should use civac.gau, not ins.gau (to do that simply replace all occurrences of "INS!" with "CIVAC!" in panel.cfg).

Hi Marco,

You are absolutely correct. The INS's all fail at 899 knots.

Where can I find the panel.cfg file? I cannot find it in the Concorde folder, or the CIVA folder in FS9/Aircraft.

Thanks for your help in moving this problem along.

You should first locate where the aircraft is kept, then under the /panel subfolder you will find panel.cfg (which may contain a "link" to a secondary panel.cfg...in such case just follow the link).

Hope this helps

Hi Marco.

You have solved my problem. After removing the ins.gau file from the FS9/Aircraft/BAeConcorde/CIVA file, the INS's all work normally on a quick Mach 2 trip from Seattle to Edwards AFB in CA.
I was holding my breath as the aircraft went through 899 knots.

Thanks a lot for your help, Marco.
