INS altimeter?

Hello!
Does the Delco Carousel IV-A take altitude data from it's own altimeter, or it uses one of the aircraft's altitude indicators? I would like to know, whether it uses altitude AMSL below TA and approximate altitude above TA, or permanently uses one pressure set (probably standard 29.92 InHq) and always "knows" only rough altitude?

And how was it in real airplanes, did the INS take "raw" pressure data, or it was correct altitude below TA? If it was the latter, would it mean that INS could be precisely updated when the aircraft was below TA, even if closer than 15 nm to the VOR station?

Hi,
All INS navigation data are referred to sea level.
INS doesn't need to know the plane altitude to navigate.
INS needs during DME UPDATING,the DME station altitude to obtain with the slant a more sharp DME distance calculation.
TAS signal from the CADC(Central Air Data Computer)and DME distance from the DME stations and DME altitude inserted by pilots are the only external inputs that INS receives.
However loss of TAS and DME inputs will not seriously affect INS performances,
INS can continue to navigate in tolerance up to 15hrs.
