Alignment took around 30 minutes (!)
Jul 31st, 2010, 11:11pm

Ok,pos is set correctly.
Let's align...

2.5nd minute: 9 to 8
4th minute: 8 to 7
8th minute: 7 to 6
..........................
25-27th minute: 6 to 5 (WOW!!!)
30th minute: 5 to 0 via 4 3 2 1

Why does from 6 to 5 take this long?  And isn't the whole alignment supposed to take 5min at 20degrees outside? It was 17 in the evening.    What am I missing?
BATteries are on,both INS and plane
APU works
Engines off

Hi,
During the alignment step by step from API 9 to API 0 the INS must accomplish many checks and duties. They are different so they take different times and  to go from API6 to API5 the time is much longer than other ones.
To go from API9 to API5(ready NAV LT on) INS takes about 20 minutes.
We provided as in the real simulators a FAST ALIGN hidden button to save time during simulations.

It's the right hand screw on the MSU. You can set the MSU directly to align after you have done your INS function checks but it won't go below 6 until you have finished entering first your POS and then your WYPTS.
That's how it is/was done in real life with the VC10.

If you're trying to learn how to use the Carousel INS without even giving a quick look at the 2~3 mandatory manuals then not only you're probably going to fail, but even if you succeed, you're surely not fully understanding INS navigation "fascinating" aspects...like DME updating, Triple MIX-ing, Manual updating, and tons of other features the system is able to provide...when commanded by a competent operator  Wink

Have great flights,
Marco

I second that!!. The manuels provided for this gauge are in fact more comprehensive than the the real thing!!! So there's a need to read and inwardly digest everything that is written.
