64-bit INS for P3D v4 / FS Labs Concorde-X
May 29th, 2017, 5:25pm

Hi Marco,

I am very interested in the INS being updated for Lockheed-Martin's P3D v4 - 64-bit.

It's is being released  tomorrow - 30th May - and you can find all the latest info here. No SDK yet but hopefully not too long.

Multimedia file viewing and clickable links are available for registered members only!!  You need to Login Login or Register Register!!

My primary use of the INS is with FS Labs Concorde-X. They have not given a firm commitment to update Concorde just yet as I suspect they are reliant on the INS being compatible. They are also prioritising their A320.

If you can provide one it would be greatly appreciated not just by me but by all Concorde lovers.

Kind regards.

Hi Marco,

I hope it's not too complex and you can produce a version. Without a compatible INS we'll never have Concorde in 64-bit P3D.

I can't tell you how devastating that would be for us. Fingers crossed you can deliver.  Smiley

Kind regards.

Hello Marco,

You may be interested to know that the P3D v4 SDK is now available to download free of charge. It can be found here:-

I'm keeping my fingers crossed it will be a relatively straight-forward job for you. Should you decide to charge for a 64-bit version that would be fine by me.

If it were to be upgraded to 64-bit compatibility I too would agree on the above.

Hi Marco,

I don't wish to become a nuisance but could you confirm if you've seen the SDK for P3D v4 please?

Thanks.

Hi Ray,

sorry for being so late but I was really busy in the last few days.

Yes, I can confirm that I:

- got and installed the P3DV4 SDK
- got and installed Visual Studio 2015 (required)

but nothing else so far  Huh

I also confirm I will TRY to compile CIVA for x64 and see what I get.

Hi Marco,

Nice to hear from you. I was getting a little worried.  Wink

Good luck with the compilation. I hope it's reasonable straight-forward. Please keep us informed of your progress. A lot of Concorde lovers are praying you can come up with the goods.  Smiley

Hi Ray,

> I hope it's reasonable straight-forward

Thanks but I honestly doubt that (I've "moved" quite a lot of source code to 64 bits @work and it never came out to be simple) but since I don't develop gauges at work (unfortunately Smiley) you could be right, let's see!

I will!

Hi Marco,

I'm encouraged by the fact you have already converted software to 64-bit. At least CIVA isn't your first exercise!  Smiley

And I don't wish to underestimate the complexity. I just live in hope.  Wink

Hello Ray,

some good, some bad.

Looks like the free version of VS2015 requires registration and login to the Microsoft "cloud". I don't like that so, at least presently, I abandoned it and reverted back to VS2010.

Tried to compile it and got back tons of warnings and errors, as expected.
I briefly went through them all and, especially warning messages, are a lot, but grouped together into 8~9 big "families, so actually 8~9 warning messages have to be considered and eventually fixed.
Errors are quite few. Some are due to incompatibilities P3DV4 introduces, some are not but I haven't analyzed them yet so I don't know how hard will be to fix them. Consider I must maintain backward compatibility, at source code level, with the 32bit version, so changes have to be carefully studied and implemented.

At the end I must say I have a positive feeling at the moment so, time permitting, I'll keep fighting  Cool. I'll keep posting in this thread any relevant news.

I'm currently looking for a good freeware jetliner supporting P3DV4 to be used for testing. No payware and non too complex. Any suggestion?

Hi Marco,

It's good to hear from you. I must admit my heart was in my mouth when you said bad news. But it doesn't appear to be terminal bad news so I can keep on breathing.  Smiley

The most important point is your heart is still in it and you have the skill to hopefully resolve these issues. It's early days yet for 64-bit freeware aircraft but I will relay your news back in the FS Labs Concorde forum and ask if anyone knows of a suitable aircraft.

Do you have any plans to keep Lefteris and Andrew in the loop over this? I suspect they can only convert their Concorde code to 64-bit if your CIVA INS program is available. Although they are still working on the A320 and need to finish that before they can look at Concorde this news will potentially remove a major stumbling block.

I had a quick email exchange with Lefteris.
As far as I know, and as you wrote, they are giving higher priority to A320 conversion, so no hurry.

When (and if) CIVA64 gauge will see the light I'll inform him.

Hi Marco,

I asked the question about suitable aircraft for you to use for testing and one kind person recommended a freeware 727-200 built for FSX but should be fine in P3D v4. This is the link to the download.

Ray,

that's Thomas Ruth's 727, I well know it and already have it installed in fsx, beside his DC-10, another very nice plane.

> should be fine in P3D v4

Does this mean it actually works Cool under P3DV4?

Thank you for the info and the download offer!

Hi Marco. I don't have v4 so can't confirm. But the person who recommend it felt there was nothing in it that should prevent it working with V4.

Marco, just wondering if you have had a chance to test the 64bit INS with one of these freeware aircraft?  Was it successful ?

thanks,
